Understanding the Process of PRP Therapy
Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is a concentrated solution derived from your own blood. After a simple blood draw is performed, the blood is spun in a specialized centrifuge. This is necessary to separate and concentrate the platelet rich portion of the blood from the remainder of the blood. Platelets are rich in growth factors and play a vital role in healing and tissue regeneration. PRP is used in many areas of medicine that require healing of injured or aging tissues. It can be used to stimulate hair growth, help heal tendons and ligaments and shorten healing time of injuries.
A standard treatment consists of 3-4 visits spaced 1 month apart with 1-2 maintenance sessions every 6-12 months thereafter.
