The WhyWe Do What We Do
Our Sister, NICOLE
Nicole is and will always be, the seed, the inspiration, the spirit behind it all.
The story of The Remedy began with a little girl who was very ill, and the realization that our lives and destinies begin to take shape from childhood.
Nicole Telfer is the cornerstone of our story.
Nicole was the third daughter of four sisters and a spitfire, a ball of contagious energy! She was sassy, sparkly and special.
At the young age of 2 1/2, she was riddled with bruises and had a clear runny nose that just wouldn’t quit. She was ultimately diagnosed with… Leukemia.
Nicole’s spirit, however, was more alive than you could imagine!
She was curious about life.
She demanded to drive the fastest in our father’s boat, as we all begged him to slow down.
She knew every complicated dinosaur name you could imagine.
She was BOLD and WILD, and despite the limitations of her body, she represented FREEDOM!
She was a beautiful light in our lives.
However, this was a very hard time for our family as we watched our loved one slowly degenerate, not in spirit but in body.
We each handled it in our own unique way.
Andrea handled this time by helping. She rolled up her sleeves and got to work. She would crank up the oxygen if there was a problem and often took very adult-like situations into her young hands. It is safe to say that she was a healer from the start. She knew how to help people and she wasn’t afraid. In fact, it made her more curious. It was no surprise when she became a Nurse Practitioner, developing her passion for healing with a holistic approach.
The very thing that lit a spark in Andrea scared the life out of Stephanie. She spent many years in hiding. While Andrea would run to each medical crisis that arose, Stephanie would slip away, trying to find a quiet place to hide.
She was terrified. This became a theme in her life and it took courage and mentorship to get out of the cocoon she had wrapped herself in. Stephanie received her Masters in Spiritual Psychology and knew she wanted to help others like herself.
As Nicole’s body was departing, another light arrived in her place. Our youngest sister, Lauren, was born! Hallelujah!
Lauren was a blessing at a time in our lives when we (or at least Stephanie) desperately needed something to hug on - to cuddle and soothe. We might have hugged her one too many times. She, too, is interested in wellness and is a seeker of mindful living, as a graduate from USF with a degree in Environmental Studies.
Nicole departed this world at five and a half years old, changing all of us for good and sending us on our own paths.
She lit a spark in us to not just survive,
but to thrive and feel ALIVE!
To feel vibrant, connected, purposeful and happy!
It really is no surprise that the fields of health, wellness and spirituality have always fascinated the Telfer sisters from a young age. We all wanted to uncover the secret sauce that Nicole had running through her veins so naturally.
Her joy prompted us to ask questions like…
What are the secrets to true health and well-being?
What makes for a fulfilling life?
What is my life’s purpose?
How does the body, mind and spirit work together?
The quest for these answers became our focus and passion, primarily because there had been many times in our lives when we felt lost and unsure.
What we discovered was that there isn’t just one quick fix for anyone. Our lives are multifaceted and need to be honored on all levels: physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. One thing we know for sure is that we need community and connection to thrive. We also need a place to go to reset, to remind us how to get back on the wagon when we slip off, as we inevitably will throughout the seasons of our lives.
This wellness center was a dream long before it had a name or an address.
In our minds, it was a place people could go to get well - to feel loved, cared for, inspired, supported and understood - to heal, HAVE FUN and connect with other like-minded people. We wanted to have one location where people could come to be filled up on all levels, and also share their gifts!
We are so happy that all of the late night chats at our mom’s house finally manifested The Remedy, the place we always wanted to go to ourselves.
The next chapter of this story invites you to join us in our vision of living our best lives - not only ones that look shiny from the outside, but ones that feel so good on the inside that you simply can’t help but share your radiance with the world.
Why is this so crucial? Because the world desperately needs you! There is something you offer that no one else does.
You are unique, special and needed.
Thank you for joining our community and choosing to live your life to the fullest, just as Nicole did so long ago.
Blessings & Gratitude,
